New Connector Interfaces, Shrouds And Multiway Breakouts Are Launched By HarnessflexHarnessflex is launching a new series of connector interfaces, hinged shrouds and in-line splitters for multi-way breakouts, for vehicle wiring applications.
Specialist conduit systems from Harnessflex are designed to route and protect electrical cables in automotive wiring harnesses for heavy vehicle OEMs, power train and associated equipment manufacturers and harnessmakers around the world.
The new connectors provide an interface to conduit and protection for cables which, if left exposed, would be susceptible to mechanical damage or water.
Helping to reduce harness packaging space, the new JPS fitting allows downsizing of a conduit run when splicing cables, for example from 20mm to 16mm, facilitating the use of smaller conduit sizes as required. The JPS fitting is also used to connect circular electrical connectors to hinged fittings and hinged conduit systems.
Designed and developed in close consultation with individual vehicle manufacturers, the new connector interfaces are available for ITT, AMP, Delphi, Deutsch, Kostal and Bosch connectors. This means that the vehicle wiring, including the connector itself, can be fully protected by the flexible, specialist conduit system.
The new, Harnessflex hinged shroud encloses mated pairs of in-line electrical connectors in conduit runs, eliminating the need for terminal boxes. This is particularly appropriate for vehicles subjected to high pressure water washes or steam cleaning as the shroud completely encloses the connector, deflecting the water or steam jet. It simply clips into place affording a natural location for sealed electrical components eg, connectors, fuse links, circuit breakers and cable splices, making later additions or modifications simple and quick.
In the sealed form, the systems are suitable for water and dust ingress protection to IP67 and are also available in materials suitable for use in arduous and aggressive environments.
New in-line splitter from Harnessflex is the first of its kind in the market to offer protected multiway breakouts in the tight confines of vehicle engine compartments.
Initially developed to solve a particular problem for a Canadian vehicle manufacturer, the in-line splitter replaced T pieces on the individual lights used on the rear of the vehicles. The solution proved extremely effective and as a result of the success Harnessflex is introducing the product to its range of specialist conduit systems.
Available through the range of 16-32mm flexible conduit systems the in-line splitters can have 4, 6, 8 or 12 outlets, depending on the requirement, making them extremely versatile and totally adaptable to the space constraints found today in vehicle engine compartments. At the breakout point the in-line splitter securely holds the smaller diameter conduit in place providing complete protection for the vehicle wiring. The fitting is rated to IP40.
"As a device the in-line splitters offer the opportunity not only to route complex cabling to remote areas of the vehicle, but also to provide a high degree of protection for exposed areas of a vehicle," explained Bob Rudd of Harnessflex. "This is particularly appropriate on heavy vehicles such as diggers, tippers and agricultural applications."
