Connector Interfaces From Harnessflex Offer Multiple Opportunities For Automotive OemsToday, most fleet owners of commercial vehicles use powerful jet wash systems to effectively wash their vehicles, maintaining a high standard of appearance.
While this effectively cleans the vehicle the power of the water, often delivered at 100psi, is sufficient to search out any crevice or cavity within the engine compartment. Having lodged there the high temperatures experienced in the engine compartment quickly get to work turning the water into an ideal corrosive catalyst.
If you can protect those terminals and connectors from the water in the first place, with the use of specialist conduit systems and the varied range of connector interfaces, then it has nowhere to go. However, if there is no protection the water and heat combine gradually increasing the corrosive process, which will initially lead to intermittent breakdown of the system. This will be followed by complete electrical breakdown resulting in the vehicle being off the road adding yet further to the operators' expense.
Specialist conduit systems such as those offered by Harnessflex are designed to route and protect electrical cables in automotive wiring harnesses in vehicles, particularly for OEMs in truck, bus, agricultural and construction sectors, as well as power train and associated equipment manufacturers and harnessmakers worldwide.
The extensive range of Harnessflex connector interfaces used with leading automotive electrical connector systems acts as a deflector against the pressurised water forcing it away from the unit. This ensures integrity of the connector housed within and as a result the overall integrity of the system is maintained along with the operational capability of the vehicle.
In the sealed form, the systems are suitable for water and dust ingress protection to IP67 and are also available in materials suitable for use in arduous and aggressive environments.
Designed and developed in close consultation with individual vehicle manufacturers, the new connector interfaces are available for ITT, AMP, Delphi, Deutsch, Kostal and Bosch connectors.
"We work extremely closely with vehicle manufacturers and OEMs in the development of connectors to suit individual applications," explained Bob Rudd of Harnessflex. "Having an extensive range of interfaces means we can often offer customised solutions for almost any giving wiring applications".
